2024 EdTech Top 40 Report: Trends in Technology Use in K-12 Education

Introduction
Educational technology (EdTech) has become a key component of K-12 education. Instructure’s latest EdTech Top 40 report provides an update on the use of digital solutions, tools, and resources in K-12 school districts across the United States for the 2023-24 school year.
Key findings

Increased EdTech Use : In the 2023-24 school year, districts used an average of 2,739 unique EdTech tools, an 8% increase from the previous year.

Student and teacher tool use : Students used an average of 1,063 tools per month, and teachers used an average of 964 tools. Over the entire school year, students used an average of 45 unique tools, and teachers used an average of 49 unique tools.

Stability of the Top 40 : The EdTech Top 40 list is largely stable, but there are five new solutions, some of which show the rise of AI-related technologies.

Tool Type Distribution : Of the top 40 tools, 60% are learner-focused, 15% are educator-focused, 20% are organization-focused, and 5% are general, broad-based tools.
