Teacher Burnout: Leadership Provides Solutions
As the education sector is thrown into chaos by the pandemic, teacher burnout has emerged as a major issue. With teacher turnover skyrocketing across the country and new teacher recruitment declining, the government and education experts are putting their heads together to find solutions. The expert panel noted that while the pandemic was not the direct cause of burnout, it served as a catalyst that exacerbated existing problems. In addition to their original teaching duties, teachers are struggling with a variety of stressors, including heavy workloads, social pressures, student behavioral problems, and parental neglect. Experts unanimously agreed that it is urgent to establish a nationwide integrated strategy that can revive the attractiveness of teaching and strengthen the status of teachers. The experts also unanimously advised that each school district should establish specific implementation plans focused on teacher retention and new hiring, and actively address the issue of burnout with data-based actions. On the other hand, there were also successful cases of solving burnout. Efforts such as giving teachers decision-making authority, actively collecting feedback, and reducing unnecessary work so that they can focus on their original educational work contributed to increasing teacher satisfaction and retention rates. Recognition and respect from the community, strengthening teacher-parent cooperation, and operating teacher wellness programs also helped. The role of the principal was also found to be important. Teachers wanted to work in schools with a renowned principal for a long time. On the other hand, if the principal's influence was not enough, they considered changing jobs. Accordingly, experts suggested a plan to utilize excellent principals to guide other principals. Lastly, the role of the superintendent was emphasized. It was pointed out that before teachers leave their jobs, they should come up with measures to improve their working environment and provide mentoring and support programs for new teachers to help them feel a sense of belonging. To solve the problem of teacher burnout, all stakeholders in the education sector must work together. Experts agree that giving respect and value to teachers and developing their capabilities is the core task of leadership.

Kami and Microsoft Teams
Are you ready to take your Microsoft Teams to the next level with Kami? In this video, learn how to create Kami assignments in Microsoft Teams and easily share them with your students. Hi, I’m Nicole Rennie and I’m a Teacher Success Champion at Kami. I love saying that I’m a Kami teacher, a Kami coach, and a Kami mom. And I love the color yellow, so you’ll often see me wearing it. Let’s take a look at Kami’s newest LMS integration, Microsoft Teams. We’re excited to bring this service to Microsoft users. I especially like using this All About Me template at the beginning of the school year because I can open it directly in Kami and give personalized instructions on the page. The first thing I like to do is name the document so I know exactly how to find it in my Kami upload folder. I can select the comment tool and leave a video comment with personalized instructions for my students directly on the page. Students can use the voice comment tool to say their names, I can learn the correct pronunciation, and it creates a sense of belonging in our classroom. The setup is very simple. Go to Teams. Select Apps in the left column. Search for Kami and follow the prompts to install the Kami app. To create a new Kami assignment, select your team or class and select Assignments. Click the Create button and select Assignments. And here you have the familiar Assignments window from Teams. From here you can select Apps and choose Kami from the list of apps. We’re going to select a file from OneDrive that we’ve already set up some guidelines for in Kami. So we know where to find our files. Everything you do in Kami is automatically saved to the Kami Uploads folder. Select the file you want to use and press Select to save it. Here you can use a title and fill in the other filled-in sections of this form. And when you’re ready, you can press the Save button. Students will see a new activity. They can go into their team, go into their assignment, select a file with Kami K, and open it directly in the Kami window. Students can have fun using all the Kami features to complete their work, and when they’re done, they can simply exit and submit as usual. When you’re ready to provide feedback and grade, go back to your team. Select the student’s work in the assignment and click Kami K to open the document. It’s easy to provide personal feedback with all the tools and features of Kami. Once you’ve selected the feedback you want to give your student, and even signed the work, you can press X and go back to your student as usual. We’re excited to make it easy for Microsoft Educators to use Kami right within Teams. Thanks for checking it out. Now you can have more fun with your own enhanced content in Kami or choose from Kami templates in the Kami library to create dynamic experiences. We will continue to help you make connections and bring your learning to life.
