Who believed what we told them?
To whom has the arm of Jehovah been revealed?
He grew up before the Lord like a tender plant and like a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by people.
A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:1-3a)
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.
We thought that he was punished by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
He was pierced for our transgressions,
He was wounded for our iniquities.
He was punished so that we could have peace.
By his stripes we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way.
The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:4-6)
