Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to come after me,
Deny yourself and take up your cross and follow me (Matthew 16:24)
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you.
He left you an example so that you could follow in his steps.
He committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in his mouth; and when he was reviled, he did not revile in return.
When he suffered, he did not threaten, but entrusted himself to him who judges righteously.
He himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree.
That we should die to sin and live for righteousness.
By his stripes you were healed.
For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls (1 Peter 2:21-25)
