As a deer pants for water brooks, so pants God,
My soul thirsts for you, Lord.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When will I go and see the face of God?
People say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
My tears have been my food day and night (Psalm 42:1-3)
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I will yet praise him, the help of his countenance (Psalm 42:5)
During the day the Lord shows his lovingkindness,
At night his praise is with me; I pray to the God of my life.
I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me?”
Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
Like a sword piercing my bones, my adversary taunts me, saying to me all the time,
Where is your God?
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I will yet praise him, the help of his countenance and my God (Psalm 42:8-11)
