In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. This word is God.
He was with God in the beginning; all things were made through him. Without him nothing that was made was made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness does not understand it (1-5)
There was the true Light, which gives light to every man, coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him.
The world did not know him; he came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the power to become children of God.
It is not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, Only those who are born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory. The glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (9-14)
