제 삶을 관통하는 키워드 중 하나는 "과학기술"입니다. 어려서는 로봇과 우주를 동경하였고, 대학에서는 경영학과 컴퓨터공학을 공부하면서 다양한 테크 기업을 탐구하였습니다. 졸업 후 소프트웨어 엔지니어 및 프로덕트 매니저로서 기술 개발 실무를 경험한 뒤, 현재는 벤처투자자로서 기술 기업 투자를 하고 있습니다. 어느 한 순간에도 저의 선택에는 과학기술이 빠지지 않았던 것 같습니다.
과학기술은 그 자체로 흥미롭고 재미있습니다. 역사적으로 많은 창업가 분들이 기술의 근본적 원리와 재미에 빠져들어 연구개발 시작해왔으며, 그 결과 우리 삶은 지속적으로 혁신되어 왔습니다. 그러나, 근본적 호기심과 재미라는 동기는 가장 강력한 도구면서, 동시에 위험 요소이기도 합니다. 기업의 성장에는 기술에 대한 근본적 호기심 뿐만 아니라, 고객과 시장에 대한 관심과 공감 또한 필수적입니다. 만약, 한쪽에 치우친다면 그 기업은 장기적 성장을 달성하기 어려울 것입니다.
따라서 저는 비즈니스와 기술이라는 양쪽 모두의 백그라운드를 활용하여 기술 창업가들과 강하게 공감하면서도, 그들이 사업 성과를 더 원활하게 낼 수 있도록 조력하는 투자자가 되고자 합니다.
One of the key themes that has shaped my life is science and technology. As a child, I was fascinated by robots and space. In university, I studied business and computer science, exploring various tech companies. After graduation, I gained hands-on experience as a software engineer and product manager. Now, as a venture investor, I focus on investing in technology companies. Looking back, science and technology have always been at the core of my decisions.
Technology is inherently fascinating and exciting. Throughout history, many founders have been drawn into the fundamental principles and sheer joy of technology, leading them to dive deep into R&D. As a result, our lives have been continuously transformed through innovation. However, while curiosity and passion for technology can be a powerful driving force, they can also be a risk factor. A company’s long-term success requires not only a deep passion for technology but also a strong understanding of customers and the market. Without balance, achieving sustainable growth becomes challenging.
With my background in both business and technology, I strive to be an investor who deeply resonates with technical founders while also helping them navigate the path to business success more effectively.
