This research paper talks about differences in procrastination with two groups, postgraduate students (PS)s and undergraduate students (USs) with prediction of self regulatory in metacognition as a mediator. The research was based on online survey through about 700 students using MSLQ (Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire) as a key.
The research was solid about gap in procrastination is large. PSs are having higher ability in metacognition regulatory compared to Uss. The paper suggested that this is due to increase in academic literacy with more experiences in studying.
Also, they mentioned misunderstanding in metacognition between students that procrastination increases creativity and higher quality in product. However, Ps students with more mastery-approach goal effects on the result in positive ways.
Lastly, they mentioned active procrastination’s different point between two. Which conclude that PS students tend to use active procrastination by high self-efficacy while the others do active procrastination because of low enthusiasm and self regulatory.
In my opinion, it is hard to confirm one concept as an all reason in decrease in procrastination as people get old. In that aspect, I liked how the research paper suggested difference hypothesis that might have caused academic procrastination in students in younger age.
