Make room for the unexpected
A small invitation to step outside your usual inputs—and see what finds its way back into your work. Some days, inspiration looks suspiciously like administration. We open the same saved folders, revisit the same references, and ask familiar things to deliver an unfamiliar idea. There is comfort in knowing where to look. There is also a point at which the search becomes a closed loop. This week, try leaving one small part of your day unplanned. Take the street without the coffee shop you know. Pick up a book from a shelf you usually pass. Listen to an entire song without doing anything else. The point is not to collect an impressive new reference. It is to notice what holds your attention before you can explain why. Bring one detail home: a peculiar color pairing, a sentence with a good rhythm, the way afternoon light divides a wall. Write it down without turning it into a project. Some observations need time before they become useful, and some are worth keeping simply because they make a day feel more particular.
