Leaked Sora Videos

Mint Bear Comment 🍀🧸

Involuntarily :) The short-lived OpenAI Sora videos stand out for their detailed yet overwhelming physics simulations, which are generated relatively quickly and fill the footage with rich, highly realistic elements, despite being in a high-resolution 1080p.
Among them, we often see results where the generated video does not correspond exactly to the test prompt, and the 'text prompt control' is not yet perfect.
Nonetheless, it seems clear that Sora has an advantage over all existing video-generating AI tools in that all of the released Sora videos are not the result of Image-2-Video, but rather high-quality Text-2-Video generated solely from text prompts. OpenAI is slightly ahead in terms of scaling.
It was an event that made us think more about the dark sides hidden behind the rapidly developing AI technology and the current relationship between technology and art.

At the same time, the video and prompt were released, quenching a long thirst that had been building since the Sora technology announcement in February 2024, a 10-month delay until its public release.

Leaked Sora Summary

For more information about this leak, see below.

Summation

2024.11.27 Before the official release of OpenAI's video generation AI 'Sora', there was a brief API leak. The 87 videos that were tested and leaked by multiple users are all 1080p resolution, 30 FPS, and most are 10 seconds long. The simulation quality of these videos is very high, but there are still some parts where the Text-to-Video control does not work well. Let's hear the story behind it.

Outline

A group of artists calling themselves 'Sora PR Puppets ' released Sora's API to AI development platform Hugging Face, allowing general users to access the Sora API for about three hours.
The leaked version is believed to be the 'Turbo' version, which can produce 10-second videos in 1080p resolution. The generated videos contained OpenAI's watermark.

Leakage Background

This leak stems from complaints from artists who were early testers of Sora. Here’s what they say:
1.
UNPAID WORK: Hundreds of artists claim to have worked for the $150 billion company, bug testing, providing feedback, and creating experiments without pay .
2.
Artwashing: OpenAI has been criticized for using artists to promote Sora as a tool for artists.
3.
Content control: OpenAI reportedly asked for approval before sharing any of its Sora creations .
4.
Insufficient compensation: They claim that the compensation provided by OpenAI is minimal compared to the contribution of the artists .

OpenAI response

OpenAI has temporarily suspended all user access to Sora. The company says participation in the early access program was voluntary, with no obligation to provide feedback or use the tool.

Implications and implications

The incident exposed tensions between AI developers and the creator community. It also sparked discussions about the ethical development of AI technology, intellectual property issues, and how AI companies approach beta testing.
Along with the development delays in Sora, this leak incident serves as an example of the rapid development of AI image generation technology and the resulting social and ethical challenges.
