The victim had first purchased $6,000 USD for $42,600 TT, and on the second occasion, he purchased an additional $4,000 USD for $28,000.
The victim later discovered the money from his first purchase to be counterfeit and reported the matter to the police.
He subsequently made arrangements with the soldier and purchased additional U.S. dollars.
Immediately after the transaction, the 24-year-old suspect was held by Belmont CID officers at a hotel.
A 45-year-old St. James man was later arrested in possession of $1,750 in counterfeit U.S. currency.
During a search of the man's home, police said they found and seized $3,800 in counterfeit U.S. currency and $14,000 TT.
