Is Threads really going to end in failure like this?

Meta’s new social media app Threads made history by reaching 10 million sign-ups just seven hours after its July 5, 2023 launch. On its first day, it became the most downloaded non-gaming app and quickly surpassed 100 million users. However, within just six weeks, Threads rapidly declined, with daily active users dropping from 50 million in early July to only 10 million now. (Source)
Why did it fail?
•
Design flaws and network effects: Threads couldn’t hold on to its early momentum, and both its design issues and the lack of strong network effects made that clear.
•
Feature gaps: Without hashtags, a search function, or a discovery page, users found it tough to follow topics they cared about.
•
Loss of celebrity engagement: After the initial publicity, celebrities lost interest, and content creators stopped getting involved.
•
Brand-focused content: Threads was dominated by brands and content managers, with a lack of organic posts.
It kind of felt like it was collapsing the way Korea’s Me2Day did, but really, not everything was a total failure.
But it's not over yet?!
•
Mark Zuckerberg admitted that user numbers are down, but he stayed optimistic and announced plans to add search, web features, and more sharing with Instagram.
•
Threads has its biggest daily active user base in India, the US, and Brazil, and there’s room to grow in other regions, too.
