Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson underscores Biden's strong position as the campaign progresses toward what is anticipated to be an extensive and costly general election. Biden's overwhelming support in South Carolina, particularly from Black voters, aimed to quell doubts about Democratic enthusiasm and his appeal to this crucial voter bloc. His campaign's considerable efforts in the state, including multiple visits by Vice President Kamala Harris and over $400,000 spent on advertisements, were geared towards maximizing voter turnout.
The triumph in South Carolina is particularly noteworthy as the state was strategically placed at the start of the Democratic nominating process, highlighting the importance of Black voters early on. Despite the predictability of Biden's victory, the campaign did not take any chances, investing heavily to ensure a strong showing. The Republican primary in South Carolina, where former President Donald Trump is the frontrunner, is set to follow on February 24.
