You can check your CIBIL score for free in India through three routes: the official TransUnion CIBIL website (one free full report per calendar year, mandated by the Reserve Bank of India), your bank or lending app, or an RBI-registered financial marketplace that shows your score free all year. Does checking your score lower it?
No. Viewing your own score is a soft inquiry with zero impact. Only a hard inquiry — when a lender pulls your report because you applied for credit — can reduce the score slightly. You can safely check your own score every month.
What is a CIBIL score?
A CIBIL score is a three-digit number from 300 to 900, calculated by TransUnion CIBIL (one of four credit bureaus licensed by the RBI) from your loan and credit-card history. Above 750 is strong; below 600 makes approval difficult.
