EdTech presentation parodying professional wrestling I found the most unique event at the ISTE conference. The event, which was called “EdTech SmackDown! Live,” was a live show that literally pitted edtech tools against each other in a professional wrestling match. It was a gathering of the most popular edtech tools currently being used in education. Hosted by Abid Patel (IT Director, Google Certified Trainer) and Stephanie Howell (School AI Community Coach), the event featured over 30 edtech experts from around the world who presented their tools as “champions” and hilariously dissed each other. The event began with the warning: "There will be smack talk. It is all in good fun to get you excited about tech. We appreciate all of our presenters and the tech tools shared today. But, there will be smack talk! Join in the fun!" Event progression and unique settings There were wrestling elements sprinkled throughout the event. There was a panel of judges called “Justice League: Detention Edition,” and characters like “No Mercy Scott,” “Cat-a-Strophic,” and “Judge Plowdown.” There was even a judge named Virginia who went by the name of “Tick Tock Terror.” A dog named Cora DaCorgi appeared as the mascot, introducing herself as “I am a dog” and adding to the fun of the event with various fun photos. Each presenter would make fun of their competing gadgets and promote their own by making provocative remarks called "smack talk," a parody of the provocative remarks WWE wrestlers make before their matches.
