유서는 언제 써야 할까요?
서른 살에 매달 유서를 쓰기로 결심하고 약 1년이 지났습니다.
매달 유서를 쓰고, 편지지에 옮겨 적고, 가지고 다녔습니다.
개인적이고 젊은 죽음을 마주한 이후 죽음을 긍정하고 오늘을 살기 위해서 유서를 썼습니다.
그럼에도 마음이 힘들었던 1년이라 처음 예상했던 밝은 유서는 아니게 되었네요.
유서의 형식을 가장한 월간 에세이일지도 몰라요.
1년간 썼던 유서를 모았습니다.
제 장례식에는 이 책을 꼭 비치해 두어야겠어요.
When should a will be written?
At thirty, I decided to write one every month.
About a year has passed since then.
Each month, I wrote a will, copied it onto stationery, and carried it with me.
After confronting a deeply personal, premature death, I began writing these wills—not to dwell on dying, but to affirm death and, through it, learn how to live today.
Even so, it was a difficult year.
The wills did not turn out as bright as I had first imagined.
Perhaps this book is a series of monthly essays, written in the form of a will.
Here, I have gathered the wills I wrote over the course of a year.
When my funeral is held someday, I hope this book will be placed there.
遺書はいつ書くべきなのでしょうか。
30歳で毎月遺書を書こうと決心してから、約1年が過ぎました。
毎月遺書を書き、便箋に書き写し、懐に入れて持ち歩きました。
個人的で早すぎる死に直面した後、死を肯定し、今日を生きるために遺書を書きました。
それでも気分の沈む日が多かった1年だったので、当初構想していたような明るい遺書にはなりませんでした。
遺書の形式を借りた、月刊エッセイなのかもしれません。
1年間書き溜めた遺書をまとめました。
私の葬式には、この本を必ず置いてもらおうと思います。
