라이선스 이름에서 추측할 수 있듯이 매사추세스 공과대학에서 만든 소프트웨어 라이선스다. BSD를 기초해서 만든 라이선스라 거의 규정은 똑같다. 소스코드를 공개할 필요도 없고 동일한 라이선스를 적용할 필요도 없으며 이 소프트웨어를 사용해서 발생할 수 있는 손해에 대해서도 책임을 지지 않는다는 것 까지 동일하다. BSD 계열의 소프트웨어에서 일반 소프트웨어로 옮겨오기 위해 만든 라이선스 정도로 생각하면 될 것 같다.
