Evernote, which was popular in the early 2010s, is cited as a representative example of a SaaS service that lost trust in its process as it struggled to convert free users to paid users.
Of course, all the founders made great exits and are living happily.
After several changes of hands, the company is now managed by the ultimate buyer, Bending Spoons.
Having an app that can store and edit text files in the cloud is cheap, so the biggest mistake you can make is charging for low-value features.
In fact, as Evernote began to implement paid services, alternatives such as Dropbox Note, Google Keep, and OneNote became more prominent.
This also serves as good fuel for services like Notion that provide additional features beyond simply creating documents.
Evernote's value proposition was simplicity, reliability, convenience and speed, but VCs say it has lost its core value proposition.
Recently, open source SaaS is also increasing and other products are also struggling.
DEVONthink, Obsidian, Notion, etc. are mentioned as Evernote
Anyway, Evernote is planning to raise subscription prices in the future and use the revenue to develop new features โ†’ Hehehe
