Personally, I think that Professor Andrew Ng and Sam Altman are looking at this market from different directions. If Professor Andrew Ng is going from the bottom up, Sam Altman is going from the top down. They both seem to have different views on where the wave of AGI and dreaming of changing the entire world starts. In the meantime, I would like to share an interview with Professor Andrew Ng from Business Insider.
To summarize in one sentence, I would say something like , "Stop trying to create strange regulations and stop making a fuss about being dominated by nuclear weapons or infectious diseases."
Background on AI Risk Exaggeration
Tech companies are exaggerating the risks of AI and calling for stricter regulation.
These regulations benefit technology companies that don't want to compete with open source.
Comparing AI, Nuclear War, and Pandemics
AI experts and CEOs are warning that the risks of AI are comparable to those of nuclear war or pandemics.
These arguments are being used to call for regulation.
The side effects of regulation
Andrew Ng points out that claims that AI could destroy humanity are overblown.
Such exaggerated claims could lead to licensing regimes that stifle innovation.
Conclusion
According to Andrew Ng, exaggerated claims about the risks of AI are part of a strategy by tech companies to suppress competition and push for regulation. Therefore, when discussing the risks of AI, careful judgment is needed by considering various perspectives.
