2024 is a year of many elections that could have a major impact on the global economy. Starting with Taiwan’s January election, the US presidential election is scheduled for November, and a total of 40 countries around the world will hold referendums. These elections will take place in countries representing 41% of the world’s population and 42% of global GDP , which could have a major impact on the global economy. (More than 2 billion people will vote in 2024 alone.)
With two wars currently in progress, rising tensions between the US and China, and political polarization in the run-up to a key election, 2024 is expected to be a year of significant volatility, requiring investors and corporate planners to adjust their investment plans.
Major countries scheduled to hold elections include South Korea, Indonesia, Venezuela, Mexico, South Sudan, Taiwan, and Pakistan, and the election results in these countries are expected to have a major impact on world affairs and the economy.
In addition, recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology are emerging as new risks that can amplify existing threats such as bots, cyberbullying, and fake news. Of course, it can be used to prevent these risks... but will people actually use it? This situation is why the platform is applying election protections in all regions and sharing lessons learned from each election to prepare for the 2024 election so that the United States can be as prepared as possible for the November presidential election.
