Google Bard, Launching a Counterattack? Suggesting New Ways to Use It with Extension Features
Haebom
Google Bard is now integrated with Google apps and services, delivering even more helpful responses. With this integration, Bard can search for and display relevant information from Google tools like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Flights, and Hotels. (Whereas ChatGPT uses the concept of plug-ins, Google approaches this with the idea of Extensions, as previously seen in Chrome and other platforms.)
Bard Extensions: This is a new way that allows Bard to find the information you need across various apps and services.
Ex) While planning a trip, you can ask Bard to find dates that work for everyone from Gmail, check real-time flight and hotel info, get directions to the airport with Google Maps, and even watch YouTube videos—all in one place.
Ex) You could ask Bard to find a resume you wrote in June 2023 in your Google Drive and have it summarize it into a short self-introduction paragraph.
•
Privacy protection: The contents of Gmail, Docs, and Drive are never visible to human reviewers, and are not used to display ads or train Bard models.
•
"Google it" feature: You can easily double-check Bard's responses. Just click the "G" icon and Bard will review its response and check it against information on the web.
•
Conversation continuity with others: If someone shares a Bard chat through a public link, you can ask Bard follow-up questions about that topic or start with your own ideas.
Additional info
These new features are made possible by updates to the PaLM 2 model, which has been trained to be more intuitive and imaginative.
