OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.
This means building a safe and beneficial AGI and creating widely distributed benefits.
Initially, they were looking to raise $100 million, but Elon Musk proposed raising $1 billion, significantly more than that amount.
Elon Musk and the friction point
Elon pledged support for OpenAI, but in reality he only gave it about $45 million, while it received more than $90 million from other investors.
Elon left OpenAI for his own reasons, and later founded his own AGI competitor, stating that OpenAI could not succeed in its mission without him.

They said that even after Elon Musk's support ended, OpenAI continued to work toward its mission, and that they had made progress despite Musk's negative views, saying that they had a low chance of success, and that Musk was belatedly coveting the value of this.
From Elon Musk's perspective, the negative comments made during the investment fund raising and project progress stages were revealed in the emails, making him look like a coward's club rather than a man's club, and he has withdrawn from the game.
