It sounds like the title of a light novel, but it actually happened. A man named Alexander Zhadan, who works at the Russian messenger startup Tenchat , has been running a bot that automatically chats on the dating app Tinder since 2022.
It started out as a joke.
At first, it was simply Zhadan who created a simple script that would automatically 'swipe right' on women with more than two profile pictures. Given the nature of the app called Tinder, the logic is that if you find someone you like, you swipe right, if you don't like them, you swipe left, and if you really like them, you swipe up. If you run this on a web browser, it works with the arrow keys or the space bar, so at first, this macro was simply a way for Zhadan to send Likes to all of the people with 'trustworthy' profiles. (It is said that Likes were unlimited with the Tinder Plus plan.)
Tinder Updates and v2
When ChatGPT API was released, he thought it would be fun to chat with the people he matched with. At that time, Tinder had an update that added zodiac signs, preferences, etc., and Zhadan AI(?) started working by chatting based on these conditions and profile texts. According to Zhadan, all he had to do was input his simple profile, personality, charm, and the type of woman he liked into ChatGPT.
I couldn't understand it properly because it was in Russian, but he was sincere.
The funny thing is that chatGPT helped me talk to women more naturally than Zhadan. (The dating macro is good.) Zhadan AI was better at conveying Zadan's charm, leading to longer conversations with women, and even setting up dates for him. However, it sometimes made small mistakes, such as promising flowers or chocolates when Zadan didn't intend to.
Meet someone you really like.
While doing that automatic matching and conversation, he was matched with a woman named Karina. Zhadan went to the place arranged by AI, met her offline, had a conversation, and fell in love. Then he updated the bot to v3. It was an optimized bot only for Karina when Zhadan was busy or had difficulty responding.
When conversations were difficult or he was having a hard time talking, Zhadan turned to ChatGPT, which recommended that he marry Karina based on his conversations with her and even suggested a plan to propose during a trip to Macau and Hong Kong.
The End of the Project
Zhadan said it took him about 120 hours and $1,432 to develop the project. He said it saved him a lot of time and money. In fact, he estimated that if he had used the dating app himself and had the conversations, it would have taken a lot of energy and time.
Oh, and what happened to Karina and Zhadan? They decided to get married on August 3, 2024, and his proposal was a success. Zhadan made the whole process public on Twitter (X).
