The word "entrepreneurship" has been trending in Korea for some time now. People close to me personally know that there are words that I don't really like, such as "일잘러" and "that_girl", and I have an aversion to these words because of their similar feel. The reason I don't like the word 일잘러 is that it creates a unicorn-like scarecrow that makes everyone strive for it, just like a parent's child, a hexagonal talent with a lot of sense and experience. that_girl is similar. I think it's a marketing term that was created because many people want to have the image of that_girl and 일잘러.
On the other hand, entrepreneurship is a bit different. If we look for it in Korea, it is closer to the old popular term of ownership. This is a very attractive concept for people who want to start a business, and I think it is an essential quality for everyone in the early stages of a startup to immerse themselves in work in a one-on-one manner. But should we all follow the entrepreneurship spirit?

Non-entrepreneurial spirit
So today, I want to talk about non-entrepreneurship . Non-entrepreneurship is actually a concept that appears as the antithesis of entrepreneurship. Representative figures include Stephen Wozniak and Derek Sivers. If we categorize it into a table for easy understanding, it looks like this.

Creative inquiry and the pursuit of curiosity: Non-entrepreneurs value the question “why” more and get great satisfaction from the process of pursuing knowledge and understanding. This spirit of inquiry is what drives them to create new ideas and innovations.
Freedom and Independence: Non-entrepreneurs value the freedom to pursue their passions and the independence of being unfettered by traditional business structures or social expectations. This is evident in their prioritization of creative work and personal satisfaction.
Social contribution and sharing: Non-entrepreneurial people share their work and discoveries with society, with the intention of creating greater social value through this. This means that they value social impact and contribution more than profit.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Non-entrepreneurs find creative solutions to overcome challenges, even when faced with limited resources and uncertain situations. They solve problems and achieve goals through an improvisational approach rather than a preplanned one.
Emphasis on personal value and satisfaction: They pursue personal value and satisfaction rather than financial success. For them, success means realizing their creative passions and living a life according to their personal values.
It may be seen as somewhat individualistic, but the core of their goal is to ultimately bring about a positive impact on society as a whole. A good example of this is Stephen Wozniak.
Are you going to sell snake oil?
The term snake oil is used in business to describe the practice of selling a product or idea with ineffective or exaggerated claims. It is a critical view of practices that seek profit rather than real value or innovation. It is used to symbolize unethical marketing strategies or business ideas that aim for short-term profits rather than real value.
In an interview, Wozniak said that he "wanted to prank rather than sell snake oil." Pranks here emphasize creativity, innovation, and the spirit of challenging rules. Steve Wozniak uses pranks to show creativity, to break away from the routine, and to try to solve problems in new and unique ways. Pranks reflect the characteristics of the non-entrepreneurial spirit by challenging authority, experimenting with systems, and giving people fun.
I'll go into this in more detail in a post on the aesthetics of distraction that I've scheduled for a few days later.
The happiness of each individual leads to the happiness of society.
This is my dog's philosophy. I think that if all members of society are faithful to their roles and live happily, then the society will naturally become a society where everyone can live well. Is there a need for everyone to be too obsessed with success, entrepreneurship, improvisation, and challenge, or to look down on stability, sincerity, preparation, and fun?
Actually, I also hear people around me telling me to start a business, but they always say I am not ready to shoulder the burden of being a CEO. First, I am writing this as a form of self-defense, saying, “Cultivate yourself, govern your family, and bring peace to the world.” I want to take care of myself, my family, and my friends first, and then become someone who can take care of a business or something else.
