Do you know Tadao Ando?

I remember him more because he was the person who made me decide to change jobs.
Personally, my favorite Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, is having a solo exhibition at Museum SAN in Korea. If you have time, I highly recommend you go. (The permanent James Turrell exhibition is also great.) When it comes to Tadao Ando, he can be described with the keywords water and light. It’s also fun to visit each space while remembering these keywords.

The exhibition theme is to display his works spanning his entire life, as in his interview where he said that youth is the time he spends living. This exhibition will feature approximately 250 of Ando’s representative works, including his early architectural works from 1969 to the mid-1990s, the Naoshima Project completed over 30 years, and buildings erected in public spaces around the world since the mid-1990s.
Also, I have listed Tadao Ando's buildings in Japan below, so I recommend you visit them the next time you visit the area. The exhibition period has also been extended until October 2023.
Bonte Museum
Address: 69, Sanroknam-ro 762beon-gil, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
One-line review: This is a must-visit when you go to Jeju Island. They mainly exhibit modern art pieces, and after viewing all the exhibits, you can enjoy the sun on the cafe terrace or look at the lake and feel at peace.
Yumin Art Museum
Address: 107 Seopjikoji-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
One-line review: It used to have a different name, but it changed its name to Yumin Art Museum at some point and became easier to access. If you go up a bit above the famous ruined cafe in Seopjikoji, you will find it. As far as I remember, the main exhibit was glass crafts.
Glass House
Address: 46 Goseong-ri, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
One-liner: This is the latest Tadao Ando building in Jeju Island. It is located near the Yumin Art Museum and offers a view of the entire Seongsan area of Jeju Island. I personally recommend going at sunset.
Hanwha Human Resources Management Center
Address: 70-2, Unakcheonggye-ro 490beon-gil, Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Hanwha Human Resources Management Institute
One-line review: This is the biggest reason I moved to Hanwha. This place is not accessible to Hanwha employees, especially new employees. It is truly the best Ando-Tata architecture in Korea along with Museum San. In particular, the water stream and the way the shade changes depending on the position of the sun are really pretty.
Church of the Heart
Address: 28 Yongeun-gil, Neungseo-myeon, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do
One-line review: You can't go in. It's the only Tadao Ando building I haven't been to in Korea. I want to go, but it says it's in a place called 'Mime Vision Village.' I can't move there...
Talent Education JCC Art Center, JCC Creative Center
Address: 29 Changgyeonggung-ro 35-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
One-line review: If you go straight up towards Hyehwa Rotary Police Station, you'll find it. I went to middle and high school in this neighborhood, so it wasn't there until then, but it opened around the time I started my career.
Each building is slightly spaced apart and can be viewed by going up from the rotary or going down from the Hansung University entrance station.
LG Arts Center Seoul
Address: 136 Magokjungang-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul
One-line review: This is the newly opened LG Arts Center behind the Seoul Plant Garden. It is the relocation of the LG Arts Center in Yeoksam, and it is located beautifully behind the empty Seoul Plant Garden. It seems like a symbol has been added to Magok, which was full of glass buildings. If I remember correctly, there is also a museum next to it, which looks like an old water treatment plant. (It was originally in Magok.)
Ferrum Clubhouse
Address: 181 Jeomdong-ro, Jeomdong-myeon, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do
One-line review: It would be a lie to say that this is the reason I started playing golf. This place is also newly opened. It is Yeoju Ferum CC and the view overlooking the hole is great. It is good to chat after a round. The downside is that the green fee is too expensive.
Museum Mountain
Address: 26, Oak Valley 2-gil, Jijeong-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do
This is Museum SAN where Ando Tata is holding an exhibition. The permanent exhibition is always the James Turrell exhibition. It is a good exhibition that is above average no matter what the weather. Of course, if you want to enjoy it with the architecture, I recommend going on a clear day. Many people go there and take a picture of their life. Before entering Museum SAN, there is also a sculpture park, so I recommend you take a look around.
I was introducing the Tadao Ando exhibition and it got long, but each building is a very interesting place. I hope you visit and have a memorable experience. I pray that the weather will be clear when you go. Of course, these are spaces that are meaningful even if they are not clear, but if they are clear, the admiration and lingering feelings will be doubled.
