The social media landscape has changed dramatically in recent years. As users grow increasingly tired of the content-based experiences offered by existing large platforms, new forms of social networking are emerging. These new platforms are particularly developing in a direction that emphasizes the formation of genuine human relationships and individual tastes. Today, I would like to introduce three notable services among them: Nospace, Youni, and PI.FYI. All three services are focused more on real human relationships offline.
Nospace: A space that values individuality and connection
Nospace is a social media platform that provides a space for users to freely express their daily lives and interests. Founded by Tiffany Chung, the service is inspired by MySpace and early Facebook, and encourages genuine social interaction between users through personalized profile pages and real-time updates. It provides a close connection with friends, as well as the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests and hobbies.
Youni: A platform to share real memories
Youni is a platform where users can share their experiences and memories of meeting in person. Unlike traditional social media, Youni emphasizes real offline encounters rather than virtual online interactions. The service presents a new paradigm in social networking, focusing especially on improving the quality of human relationships. Co-founded by Georgia Gibson, Youni helps people form meaningful relationships through real-world activities they can do together.
PI.FYI: Networking based on personal preferences
PI.FYI is a platform focused on sharing users’ personal tastes and interests. Founded by Tyler Bainbridge, the service gives users the opportunity to get to know each other better by sharing their favorite movies, music, cooking recipes, and more. PI.FYI goes beyond automated recommendation systems to enable a deeper social experience through personalized recommendations based on each user’s unique tastes.
All three platforms share a common goal of going beyond the limitations of traditional social media. All three emphasize deep human connections in real life, beyond online interactions. Some say this approach is intended to provide a solution to the growing isolation and mental health issues exacerbated by social media, especially since the pandemic.
With a user-centric approach, they are encouraging users to engage with social authenticity in different ways. These new platforms, led by Generation Z, are expected to change the future of social media.
