Aren't people in the tech industry trapped in an AI echo chamber?
◦
An echo chamber is a term similar to 'filter bubble' used in the past; to put it bluntly, it's basically just their own little culture.
◦
So in other words, the topic is like, “AI is all the buzz, but honestly, isn't it just people in IT getting worked up about it?”
•
In the comments too, lots of people actually say things like, “That exists?” when they show AI to people around them or to those outside of IT.
•
So there's a question about whether it's actually making any real impact on ordinary people (most users) like personal computers, the internet, or smartphones did.
•
There are all sorts of discussions going on throughout the thread.
◦
Most of the recent "AI" related business ideas seem to be people plugging a text box into ChatGPT's API and pretending to do something new or impressive .
◦
It’s not really making much difference in terms of actually generating wealth.
◦
Honestly, with alternatives already available, it makes me wonder if there's any real need for it.
Both pessimistic and optimistic views are being discussed... (And it's funny when someone gets all serious because someone compared it to cryptocurrency)
•
The most memorable comment I’ve heard recently was that maybe right now is actually a transitional phase, kind of like PDAs or UMPCs were. Before smartphones, people called those ‘innovations’.
