Outline

In this paper, we propose an efficient aggregation scheme that considers the cyclic connection pattern between users and relays in hierarchical secure aggregation (HSA). While existing HSA studies assume that each user is connected to only one relay, this paper considers the case where each user is cyclically connected to B consecutive relays. To achieve this, we propose an efficient aggregation scheme that includes a message design inspired by gradient coding and a complex secure key design, and derive a new inverse theorem for minimum communication and key rate using information-theoretic arguments. The research focuses on improving the communication efficiency and enhancing the security of relays by applying the gradient coding technique for efficient communication in distributed computing to hierarchical secure aggregation.

Takeaways, Limitations

Takeaways:
Presentation of an efficient HSA communication method using gradient coding technique
Suggesting the possibility of improving the performance of HSA through circular connection patterns
Deriving minimum communication and key rate bounds through information theoretic analysis
Enhanced repeater security and improved user data protection
Limitations:
Analysis limited to circular connection patterns only
Absence of performance evaluation in real FL environment
Lack of generalization to more complex network topologies.
