# Lesson 2: Globalization and its parts

# Part 1:

---

## Infrastructure & Networks

Networks and international travel allow globalization to happen.

Networks can be both physical and virtual.

Globalization has three interdependent parts:

1. Infrastructure

2. Networks - Using Infrastructure

3. Flows - On Networks

| Physical | Virtual |
| --- | --- |
| Rail system | Internet |
| Airports | Social |

> Globalization is possible because of infrastructure and networks - connects people.

## Networks and Flows

**Four main things flow along networks**

> Information

> People

> Money

> Goods

## Globalization isn't consistent

> The infrastructure, costs, and benefits are not split evenly around the globe

> The causes, speed, amount and effects of globalization are not the same

---

# Part 2:

## Considering Power and Privilege

> Power - Ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.

> Privilege - a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed by a particular person or a restricted group of people beyond the advantages of most.

## EU: Globalization has winners and losers

Eg. Apple iPhones

| Winners | Losers |
| --- | --- |
| Chinese Government - Foreign Cashflow, More Jobs. | Environment - Pollution |
| Apple Company - Cheaper Manufacturing, More profits. | Other Factories - Less opportunity |
