Lesson 2: Globalization and its parts
Part 1:
Infrastructure & Networks
Networks and international travel allow globalization to happen.
Networks can be both physical and virtual.
Globalization has three interdependent parts:
1.
Infrastructure
2.
Networks - Using Infrastructure
3.
Flows - On Networks
Physical
Virtual
Rail system
Internet
Airports
Social
Globalization is possible because of infrastructure and networks - connects people.
Networks and Flows
Four main things flow along networks
Information
People
Money
Goods
Globalization isn't consistent
The infrastructure, costs, and benefits are not split evenly around the globe
The causes, speed, amount and effects of globalization are not the same
Part 2:
Considering Power and Privilege
Power - Ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.
Privilege - a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed by a particular person or a restricted group of people beyond the advantages of most.
EU: Globalization has winners and losers
Eg. Apple iPhones
Winners
Losers
