2024년도 도시사회학 연구의 주제는 해양산업도시 창원이다.
본 과정에서는 대한민국 마산과 진해 지역의 식민 도시화 과정을 중심으로 식민주의와 도시화의 상호작용을 심층적으로 탐구한다. 마산과 진해가 겪은 식민지 시대의 도시적 변화와 그 역사적 맥락을 이해함으로써, 식민주의가 지역사회의 공간 구성, 경제, 사회 관계, 문화, 그리고 정체성에 미친 영향을 분석한다. 이 과정은 마산과 진해의 식민지 역사가 현대 도시의 모습과 어떻게 연결되어 있는지, 그리고 이러한 과거가 현재의 도시 계획과 지역 사회에 어떤 의미를 가지는지를 탐색한다.
수강생들은 식민주의와 도시화의 개념을 기초로, 식민 도시의 설계와 구조, 경제적 영향, 사회적 계층 구조, 공간의 젠더화, 식민주의 유산과 도시 계획, 저항과 해방 운동 등 다양한 주제를 학습한다. 또한, 현대 도시화의 글로벌 콘텍스트에서 식민주의의 역할과 디지털 시대의 도시화와 식민주의, 지속 가능한 도시 개발과 식민주의의 유산 등 현대적 문제에 대해서도 심층적으로 다룬다.
학생들은 강의, 독서, 토론, 그리고 마산과 진해 지역에 대한 현장 연구를 통해 식민주의가 도시 공간과 사회에 끼친 영향을 직접 조사하고, 이를 바탕으로 자신만의 연구 프로젝트를 수행한다. 이 과정을 통해 학생들은 식민 도시화 과정의 복잡성을 이해하고, 지역사회의 역사와 현재에 대한 깊은 통찰력을 얻게 될 것이다.
